The Jersey Shore Attracting More Surfers

Michael “Mike” Angeleri holds a BS in Civil Engineering and works at Eastern Lift Truck in Maple Shade, New Jersey. With a number of hobbies, many of them outdoor puruits, Michael Angeleri particularly enjoys visiting the Jersey Shore during the summertime to surf, skim board, and swim. In recent years, the Jersey Shore has continued to grow in popularity, especially for those on the east coast looking for an excellent beach-going experience.

While many visitors come to the Jersey Shore for the iconic boardwalk featuring popular eateries and shops, the shore's Ocean City was recently named one of the best surf spots in America by Surfer.com. Visiting in fall is the best choice, with smaller crowds and the right weather for swells. While it's possible to surf in winter and spring as well, full wet-suits are required to keep warm.

The Jersey Shore offers over 130 miles of shoreline, and offers as many surfing days each year as one would find in the south. One problem faced by visitors is parking, with strict regulations and spots sometimes difficult to find in the popular summer months. In places like Manasquan, Cape May, and Ocean City, surfers require a daily or seasonal badge to be on the beaches all day.
